Stay Safe: Protect Yourself from Scams and Fraud

At TeleChoice, your security is our priority. Scammers often pretend to be from trusted companies like ours to steal personal information or money. Use this guide to spot the signs of a scam and learn how to protect your account.

Common Scams to Watch For

  • Phishing Emails & SMS (Smishing): You receive a message claiming your bill is overdue or your service will be disconnected. It usually contains a link to a fake login page designed to steal your password or credit card details.
  • The “Technical Support” Call: Someone calls claiming there is a “fault on your line” or a virus on your router. They may ask for remote access to your computer to “fix” it.
  • One-Ring Scams: You see a missed call from an international number. If you call back, you are charged premium rates.
  • SIM Swapping: Scammers try to port your phone number to a SIM card they control to bypass two-factor authentication on your bank accounts.

How to Spot a Fake Message

Even sophisticated scams usually have “tells.” Look out for:

  1. High Pressure: Language like “Immediate action required” or “Your account will be deleted in 2 hours.”
  2. Generic Greetings: Messages that start with “Dear Customer” instead of your actual name.
  3. Suspicious Links: Hover over links (on desktop) or long-press (on mobile) to see the actual URL. If it doesn’t feel right, don’t click it. Always go to the provider website yourself without clicking the link provided!
  4. Request for Sensitive Info: We will never ask for your password, PIN, or full credit card details over the phone or via text.

Our “Golden Rules” for Security

Do Don't
Do use a strong, unique password for your account. Don't share your one-time passcodes (OTP) with anyone.
Do change your password regularly. Don't click on links in unexpected texts or emails and always go to the provider website
Do hang up if a caller makes you feel uneasy. Don't give remote access to your devices to strangers.

What to do if you’ve been targeted

If you think you have shared your details with a scammer or notice suspicious activity on your TeleChoice account:

Remember: If a deal sounds too good to be true (like a brand-new iPhone for $1), or a threat sounds too urgent, take a breath. Call us directly using the number on your official bill to verify.
